The successful candidate will have a record of high quality undergraduate and graduate teaching, and graduate supervision. Demonstrated administrative skills and experience are a requirement, and prior involvement in leadership will be considered an asset. Applicants would normally possess a PhD or DMA, but we will also consider exceptional candidates with equivalent credentials and experience. She or he will be expected to demonstrate vision and creativity and to foster a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive environment for students, staff, faculty, and community partners.

The Director’s responsibilities will include overseeing recruitment of students; recruiting and evaluating faculty; developing scholarly initiatives; maintaining and enhancing community, alumni, and donor partnerships; overseeing educational and community programs; overseeing the financial health of the unit; and continuing to build the profile of the School regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Applicants should provide the following items in a single PDF file to Margaret Tom-Wing in the Dean of Arts Office via email (arts.headships@ubc.ca) with “MUSIC Director” in the subject line: a letter of application; a curriculum vitae; and statements (no longer than 1 page each) summarizing their (a) research/creative activity program, (b) teaching philosophy/practice and ability to work with a diverse student body, (c) experience in and approach to administrative and leadership roles, and vision for a School of Music in a research-intensive University.

Review of applications will begin on June 15, 2018, and will continue until the position is filled. At a later stage of the search process, long-listed candidates will be asked to provide evidence of teaching effectiveness and to arrange to have four confidential letters of reference sent directly to the Dean of Arts Office. The position is subject to final budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
